Alle-sur-Semois-5

A weekend trip to Alle-Sur-Semois and Lesse in Belgium

We went for short weekend to a small village called Alle-Sur-Semois, it is south-east region Vresse-sur-Semoise in Belgium in the middle of beautiful nature. It is located at the feet of surrounding hills and crossed by the river Semois.
At this weekend the weather was cloudy, as it usual is during this time of the year, but this didn’t stop us from exploring the little village and enjoying the great hotel we have picked.
The village is calm and small, but it has bars, restaurants, a supermarket and a pharmacy and you can do a nice round walk. On our walk along the shore of the river and our dogs loved to walk in water.

The hotel we picked is called “Le Charme de la Semois” and it is really charming. The rooms are nice, nothing special, but it has everything you need to feel home. The hotel has a bar and a restaurant, where breakfast and dinner is served.

Before we went for dinner, we sat down in the spacious bar and had some wine and beer. The drink menu offers several types of beer and a very tasty white house wine. The bar is decorated with many different types of cow statues made out of clay. Very charming.
The restaurant is a medium sized room and it is nicely decorated. The service was great throughout the evening and they treated us very well.

And now we get to the part I personally enjoyed the most – the food!
The restaurant offers traditional Belgium food, which contains of a lot of meat, sea food and salad.

After we got seated, we received our aperitif and got some fresh bread with butter. We could choose “á la carte” or set menus. The set menus consist of several courses and you can taste different types of food. We went for the “á la carte” option.

After we have chosen and waited for our main courses, the restaurant served us tomato soup and poultry crème as a starter, which was a very nice starter.

My wife is a vegetarian and it was a bit difficult to find something from the menu, but they made an effort to give her some options and she finally decided to go for a cheese plate with salad and fresh bread. The cheese plate contained of six different types of cheese from mild to very strong and she enjoyed every bite of it.

I decided to have the burger and I have to admit that I ate already a lot of burgers in my life, but this one was one of the best burgers I ever had. It was served with salad and French fries on the side.

After the main course our stomachs had been really full, but we wanted to take a look at the dessert options. The surprising thing about the menu was that is was not a usual card, it was put on a rolling pin, which was something different. We had about ten different options to choose from.

My wife had the “Moelleux au chocolat Coeur fondant” with pistachio ice cream and I picked a Panacotta with mango flavour. They both tasted like heaven and the Moelleux was done perfectly, on the outside well baked and the heart still liquid. Just as it has to be.

It has been a lovely evening with great food and tasty wine. It is for sure one of the best restaurants in this region.

The next morning we had breakfast in the hotel restaurant and it offered everything you need for a good start into the day. Fresh squeezed orange juice, fresh bread and the usual food for a continental breakfast.

After checkout we decided to go for a short hike with our dogs nearby. We drove to the small village Lesse, about 30 minutes from Alle-Sur-Semois. Our 7 kilometers hike took us from the village along the two small rivers Lesse and Our and back to the starting point. We could walk closely to the shore of the river and our dogs loved to walk in the water and the green in the woods was really beautiful.

We had a great weekend in these places and are thinking to come back in summer again.
